Rama finds Sugriva and forges a mighty friendship with the monkey king to pursue the rescue of Sita.
एवम् ब्रुवाणम् लक्श्मणं रामः प्रियकृते च स । चकार प्रतिक्रियां तां चित्रकूटाद् गमिष्यति ।।4.1.1।।
Meaning
Thus spoke Lakshman to Rama, and the lord prepared to journey from Chitrakuta seeking his beloved's welfare.
तं रामं दुक्खितं दृष्ट्वा सौमित्रि रम्यफलकम् । ततः पैसाची रूपेण रावणे राक्शसि : ।।4.1.2।।
Meaning
Seeing Rama grieved in spirit, a demoness appeared, sent by Ravana to discover the heroes' location.
चित्रकूटात् पुनर्गत्वा रामः परमवीर्यवान् । वनं वनं परिक्रम्य सीताया अनुगत्वया ।।4.1.3।।
Meaning
The mighty Rama, departing from Chitrakuta, wandered from forest to forest with Sita, seeking news of her.
ततः प्राप्तः सुग्रीवम् च वानर जयार्थकम् । रामेण मित्रता चक्रे सम्पद्यत महात्मनि ।।4.1.4।।
Meaning
Thus did Rama find Sugriva and forge a mighty friendship with the monkey king to pursue the rescue of his wife.
सुग्रीवं रामः सामन्तं कृत्वा सम्यग् अनिन्दित: । वानर सेनया युक्तः सकार्य उपचक्रमे ।।4.1.5।।
Meaning
Rama, faultless and mighty, appointed Sugriva as his ally and began to plan the gathering of the monkey army.
संयुक्तः सुग्रीवस्तस्य वानराणां महाबलान् । रावण वधकामार्थी रामं साम उपागतम् ।।4.1.6।।
Meaning
Allied with Sugriva and his mighty monkey hosts, Rama set forth with determination to slay Ravana.
रामः समवशण् सुग्रीवमाज्यान्चिकित्सिताम् । ततः सम्प्राप्य वनम् तद् वनान्तरमुपागता: ।।4.1.7।।
Meaning
Rama reconciled the quarreling monkeys and thus obtained their aid, advancing toward the ocean's shore.
सीतां याचति वानरम् वीरो रामः परमापर: । सुग्रीवं च महाबाहुम् दूतां वानरषत्तमान् ।।4.1.8।।
Meaning
The heroic Rama, seeking Sita, enlisted the mighty monkeys and their greatest warriors as messengers.
ततः वानरषेनाग्रः समुक्थ्यावन्त् रावणे । रावण समरम् आक्राण्ते सम्प्रावृत्य महीपते ।।4.1.9।।
Meaning
The monkey army, viewing the vastness of their forces, prepared for the encounter with Ravana.
वानर यात्रा संप्रेक्ष्य रामः सख़्ष्म उपागता: । रावण रिप्शु वानरान् दुतः श्रेश्ठो नियोजिता: ।।4.1.10।।
Meaning
Seeing the arrangement of the monkey forces, Rama selected the mightiest monkey as his emissary to Ravana.
